‘SNL’ Parodies ‘Black Panther’ With Deleted Scene Sketch Starring Sterling K. Brown
The billion-dollar box office smash, Black Panther, get the SNL treatment in a sketch with Leslie Jones, Chris Redd and Sterling K. Brown.
Becoming a billion dollar box office history-making smash hit didn’t prevent the comedy writers at Saturday Night Live from spoofing Black Panther. The popular sketch comedy show featured a send up of the Afrofuturistic hit during its most recent episode. Starring Chris Redd, Leslie Jones, Kenan Thompson and Sterling K. Brown, the Black Panther skit took place in the ancestral plane Djalia and added some familial dysfunction for some comedic effect.
In it, T’Challa (Redd) travels to the mystical plane, where he meets several extended family members. Jones and Brown play his great aunt and great, great grandfather, which seemingly fit into the Wakandan lore, but Thompson shows up (and steals the show) as an uncle who married into the family, yet still gets to go to Djalia. Over the course of the five-minute sketch, Thompson’s character manages to compare his wife, a member of the Dora Milaje, to Michael Jordan, propositions T’Challa for a vibranium loan, and undercooks a batch of lion burgers.
Brown, who portrays the character N’Jobu in the actual film, can be seen in the video below almost breaking character at the 2:58 mark.
