Shaun King Accused of Attempting to Profit off Chadwick Boseman's Death

King came under fire for invoking the actor's death in a recent email blast promoting his upcoming memoir.

Shaun King has summoned the ire of the internet once more.

On Saturday, Twitter users condemned the mention of Chadwick Boseman's death in an email sent by King to promote his upcoming book, Make Change: How to Fight Injustice, Dismantle Systemic Oppression, and Own Our Future. In the note to supporters, King writes, "Yesterday I sent an email checking in on everybody — and just a few hours later we learned of the death of Chadwick Boseman. Life is so very fragile. Tomorrow is not promised." He goes on to plug the book, breaking down the memoir-ish format, the intention behind it, and where it could pre-ordered. Not long after the email went out, users began to circulate screenshots on Twitter (see below,) charging the activist with attempting to profit off the death of the Black Panther star, who tragically passed on Friday after a four-year-long battle with colon cancer.

Later in the day, King responded to the accusations in a tweet. "I literally do not make a penny off of sales for my book," King clarified. "I had a mass email pre-scheduled to go out this morning about my book. I updated the email to also mention the death of Chadwick. And I don’t regret it," he added.
