The show will mark Jackson's first-ever starring role in a TV series.

Samuel L. Jackson is set for a return to Marvel's ever-expanding cinematic universe.

According to a report from Variety, the comic book giant has announced a new breakout series for Nick Fury. And, of course, Jackson's onboard to reprise his role as the shadowy one-eyed S.H.I.E.L.D agent from the first three phases of the MCU. Plot and cast details are still slim, but Mr. Robot's Kyle Bradstreet is reportedly locked in to write and executive produce the still-untitled series. What's more, the role will be Jackson's first-ever starring slot in a non-animated TV series, having made prior cameos and guest appearances in The Boondocks and Marvel's first TV series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fury has played an integral part in threading more than ten big-screen MCU installments, beginning his tenure in 2008's Iron Man. And with a slate of now nine upcoming spin-off series headed to Disney+ this year and next, there's a good chance he'll have spots in more than just his own show. It's worth noting that production on most, if not all, of those series has been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and fans should expect delays on their arrival to the platform as a result. But whenever things do get to resume, the rollout will be unending.

Fury's last appearance in a Marvel title was in 2019's Spider-Man: Far from Home, chasing a reluctant Peter Parker across the world. He capped the film's post-credits scene, as well, lounging around in a virtual reality simulator on a Skrull ship somewhere in deep space.

And while we can't say for certain when you should expect Samuel L. Jackson's return to the role, between the multitude of incoming TV and big screen properties in development, there'll be plenty of slots for him in the not-too-distant future.
