Jackson leads a cast that includes Jazmine Sullivan, D.L. Hughley, Kenan Thompson, Jay Pharoah and more.

Once feared to be indefinitely shelved, the Neil Bogart biopic, Spinning Gold, appears to be officially a go. According to Deadline, Timothy Scott Bogart, son of the infamous disco hypeman and Casablanca Records founder, has swiped the director’s chair away from Spike Lee, who was previously attached to the picture. But the film has also revealed who’s in line to portray members of Bogart’s legendary Casablanca roster.

Samuel L. Jackson is locked in as George Clinton at the height of the funk legend’s acid intake, D.L. Hughley as Clinton’s rubber band bass man, Bootsy Collins. Jazmine Sullivan has been cast as post-Motown Gladys Knight, while Kenan Thompson is inked in as her old boss, Berry Gordy. As for the film’s lead — a role occupied by Justin Timberlake in a former treatment — Bogart will be played by Broadway’s Jeremy Jordan.  Spinning Gold will also feature Jason Derulo as Ron Isely and Jay Pharoah as Frankie Crocker, the WBLS radio DJ who was indicted in the payola scandal. The film is being produced by Laurence Mark, who was behind Dreamgirls and, more recently, The Greatest Showman. Production is set to begin on July 16th in Montreal.

Bogart’s son tells Deadline: “When I ask people who were around my father what it was like, they inevitably say a variation of the same thing. That is, ‘I don’t know how I survived it or if I would do it again, but I had the greatest f*cking time of my life.’ That is the compass of the movie — a story of an enormously tightknit group that made magic happen, who believed in their dreams and made them come true.”
