‘Black Panther’ Becomes The Top Grossing Superhero Film Of All Time In U.S.
Black Panther has officially wrestled the crown from The Avengers to become the biggest selling superhero film of all time.
Yes, yes, ladies and gentlemen, Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther has passed up fellow Marvel title The Avengers to become the highest grossing superhero film of all time. The latter film, which grossed $623.4 million, is now number two after Black Panther earned the $18 million needed to get the spot.
Black Panther now officially becomes only one of seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically. The Wakandan-centered film has shattered milestones since opening in theaters on Feb. 16. Around the world, Black Panther has set the same pace, demolishing records and earning major duckets. The film has earned north of $1.2 billion to date. By the end of Sunday, it will leap past Iron Man 3 ($1.214 billion) to become the third-biggest comic book adaptation behind The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion).
Made on a $200 million budget (and that’s before marketing) — Black Panther helped to add inclusion and diversity to Disney and Marvel’s slate of films which mostly had a majority white cast and crew.
