Rosemont Mayor Defends Investigation Of Kenneka Jenkins’ Death

The mayor of Rosemont defended the village public safety department’s handling of a teenage girl who was found dead in a walk in hotel freezer during a recent village board meeting.

Usually held once a month on a Wednesday morning and rarely drawing members of the public, this latest meeting found several residents in attendance addressing the death of 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins, with one of the residents addressing Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens and trustees when given the opportunity to comment. According to a report from the Daily Herald the resident, a woman, “accused police of being overly aggressive toward protesters who gathered outside the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel” to protest Jenkins’ death.

However, Stephens never directly addressed her or the other residents, instead accusing some protesters of “agitating” police officers and hotel guests.

“Our guys, I can’t be more proud than the way they handled themselves,” Stephens said.

Members of Jenkins‘ family appeared on an episode of The Dr. Oz Show last week to talk about the Chicago teen’s mysterious death.

Tereasa Martin and Leonore Jenkins, Jenkins’ mother and sister, respectively, appeared on Mehmet Oz’s TV show where the two revealed that the police targeted them when they arrived at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel and Conference Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

“They came to arrest us,” Leonore said. “That’s how the police came.”

“Leonore and the rest of the family members, they go upstairs, one of the kids pulled this fire drill thinking that everybody will run out but they didn’t,” Martin added. “So they knocked on doors and they had their phones with Kenneka’s picture asking them ‘Did y’all see her?'”

“They came to arrest us,” Martin said. “With K9s…They asked me what was going on. They have no clue that a young girl even came up missing.”
