B-boy icon and Rock Steady Crew co-creator Richard “Crazy Legs” Colón is helping provide drinkable water to the people of Puerto Rico.

In a report from NPR, Richard Colón has traveled to Puerto Rico (where he has a home residing in Isabela) to help with giving residents clean drinking water following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. He, along with some friends, started Rock Steady For Life, a campaign to help Puerto Ricans affected by the hurricane. The organization has not only brought supplies to Puerto Rico but is also working with Waves For Water, a nonprofit group that provides portable clean water filters to people around the world.

The process uses simple materials that purify the water from biological contamination, including a plastic bucket, a rubber hose, and a small plastic filter.

“I’ve done this in 17 countries myself,” Rob McQueen, a director for Waves For Water, said. “I always drink first. I never get sick.”

People in remote areas of Puerto Rico have been drinking water from contaminated creeks, which is why the clean water filters are so important. Colón and the team will pass out 300 of the water filtration systems and buckets to the more isolated areas in the northwest part of Puerto Rico. Along with passing the materials out, they will teach leaders how to use the system so that they can teach others.

While speaking with NPR, Colón also said that he is disgusted with Trump’s handling of the situation, saying: “Trump’s lack of care or empathy or sympathy is just one of those things where, why are you even planning to come to PR? Me, just a b-boy from Bronx, how the hell is it that I’m able to get here before the president of the United States?”

Colón has also created a GoFundMe page for relief for Puerto Rico. You can donate to that here.
