According to a report from Press-Republican, state officials believe Weinstein had already contracted the virus when he transferred from Rykers Island to Wende Correctional Facility in western New York on Wednesday. Weinstein and another inmate who tested positive are being held in isolation at Wende, where new prisoners typically receive medical treatment before being sent to other facilities in the state's prison system.

Earlier this month, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree sexual assault and third-degree rape. He faces four more charges in Los Angeles, but it's unclear when he'll be allowed to return to court for the remaining charges. If he's found guilty, Weinstein could face an additional 28 years on his sentence.
