"I go, ‘Look, I like Wesley Snipes, but Larry Fishburne is practically Marlon Brando."

Long before Netflix gave it a shot (and a Disney acquisition ended it,) Marvel's Luke Cage had a chance of hitting the silver screen with the star power it deserved.

In a new interview on Amy Schumer's podcast, 3 Girls, 1 Keith, Quentin Tarantino explained how dear the hero-for-hire and other Marvel runs were to him as an obsessive comic book enthusiast. The director went on to reveal he'd even envisioned a Luke Cage film starring Laurence Fishburne as the titular character (fresh off a commanding role as Morpheus in the box office smash, The Matrix.)

But it wasn't long before Tarantino's committee of fellow superhero stans shut the concept down, insisting Wesley Snipes was a better fit for the role. In his hallmark mania, the director detailed the exchange, "All my friends were like, ‘It’s got to be Wesley Snipes.’ And I go, ‘Look, I like Wesley Snipes, but Larry Fishburne is practically Marlon Brando. I think Fish is the man.’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, but he’d have to get in shape in a big way. Snipes is that way already!’ And I go, ‘Fuck that! That’s not that important! Fuck you, you ruined the whole damn thing!’"

The director also discussed his Star Trek adaptation, Martin Scorcese's take on superhero films, and potentially breaking the 10 film cap he'd previously put on his career,
