The script is reportedly an adaptation of Paul Cantor's forthcoming biography.

Every year since 2004, former Universal Pictures executive Franklin Leonard releases The Black List. The list is the result of surveys to determine Hollywood's most popular unproduced screenplays. This year's crop of titles includes Blue Slide Park, a biopic set to tell the late Mac Miller's life story. According to Deadline, Kyle Anderson and Michael Vlamis based the screenplay on the manuscript of Paul Cantor's forthcoming Miller biography.

Anderson is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker, while Vlamis most notably appears on Fox's New Girl and the CW's Roswell, NM. According to Deadline, the pitch for Blue Slide Park reads: "After his first album topped the Billboard charts, life was never the same for Malcolm McCormick aka Mac Miller. This is his story of music, love, success, family, and addiction."

Miller's September 2018 death shook the hip-hop community. A year later, three men were arrested and charged in connection with his death. Abrams Press has not yet announced a title or release date for the Cantor biography.

It is uncertain if the script will ever go into production. This past June, Miller's family and manager Christian Clancy called to postpone the production of a "definitive" Mac Miller documentary by director CJ Wallis. After the decision, Wallis' production company, FortyFPS Productions, released a statement on Twitter:

"We felt comfortable announcing our intentions in advance of receiving permission because they were just that - intentions. The concept was peers telling their one favorite Mac story & cutting them together as a motivational & positive picture. Not a life story."
