On Thursday, Universal Pictures released the trailer for King of Staten Island. The Judd Apatow-directed comedy hits on-demand services on June 12. The film stars Pete Davidson, Marisa Tomei, and Steve Buscemi. Watch the first official trailer above.
King of Staten Island follows a man in his mid-20s, still coping with the death of his NYFD father.
"Scott (Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven," Universal Pictures' synopsis reads.
"He's now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach. As his ambitious younger sister heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother (Tomei)"
The film is partially biographical. A great deal of Davidson's stand-up comedy deals with the loss of his father on September 11. Like his character in Staten Island, Davidson sports a commemorative tattoo. Much of Davidson's material also covers struggles with mental health and drug use as a means of coping.
The film marks the second time that Davidson has appeared in a Judd Apatow film. In 2015, he played a minor role in the movie Trainwreck. Amy Schumer and Bill Hader starred in the romantic comedy, while LeBron James and John Cena also made cameos.
