Netflix Orders 10-Episode Comedic Series ‘On My Block’ For 2018 Premiere
Co-created by Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez & Jeremy Haft, ‘On My Block’ is a coming-of-age comedy heading straight to Netflix for 2018.
This past Thursday, Dec. 14, Netflix announced another new, coming-of-age comedy, which stars actors of color in the lead cast. On My Black will be a 10-episode, 30-minute comedy series created by Lauren Iungerich (Awkward) and Eddie Gonzalez & Jeremy Haft (All Eyez on Me).
The plot entails four bright and street-savvy friends who navigate their way through the ups, downs, pains and newness of high school set in a rough California inner city. The actors portraying these characters are all relative newcomers. Diego Tinoco (Teen Wolf) as Cesar Diaz, Jason Genao (The Get Down) as Ruby Martinez, Jessica Marie Garcia (Liv and Maddie) as Jasmin, Sierra Capri as Monse Finnie and Brett Gray as Jamal Turner.
This is the second comedy of its kind for Netflix in 2018. Similar projects also include, Everything Sucks, starring The New Edition Story’s Jahi Winston. For those unfamiliar, with Laura’s Awkward, the show ran on MTV for five seasons and won a Teen Choice Award and a People’s Choice Award during its run.
