Netflix Is Introducing A Real-Life ‘Squid Game’ Competition Where Participants Will Not Be Killed

For the chance to win $4.56 million, a Squid Game competition is coming to Netflix, but full disclaimer – participants will not be killed.

Fans of Squid Game will soon have the chance to turn drama into reality – almost. On Tuesday (June 14), Netflix announced that the platform will be introducing an unscripted reality competition Squid Game: The Challenge where 456 players will face off in a series of games for a whopping $4.56 million cash prize.

Unlike the series which debuted on Netflix last year, participants in the competition will not be killed, with the casting application reading “win or lose, all players will leave unscathed. But if you win, you win big!”

Squid Game took the world by storm with [series creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s] captivating story and iconic imagery,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of unscripted and documentary series. “We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment. Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest-ever cash prize at the end.”

Consisting of 10 episodes, the reality competition will air in 2023, the same year that season two is also expected. At the height of the show’s popularity, last November, YouTube star MrBeast hosted an unofficial Squid Game competition, paying the winner a $456,000 cash prize.
