Netflix Greenlights 'Wednesday' For Second Season

Netflix show Wednesday, which stars 20-year-old actress Jenna Ortega, has been renewed for a second season.

Two snaps for Wednesday. On Friday (January 6), Netflix announced that the Jenna Ortega-led series will have a second season after its first season, which premiered in November, became a smash hit. Watched in more than 182 Million households since its debut, Wednesday is now one of the most successful series ever on Netflix, ranking #2 on the Most Popular (English) TV list.

Gen-Z viewers have caught on the the Wednesday fandom since November, as #WednesdayAddams has amassed over 22 billion views on TikTok, partially due to the show's now-iconic dance scene featuring The Cramps' "Goo Goo Muck."

In an interview with NME, Ortega revealed that she had COVID while shooting the dance scene.

"Yeah, I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick and when I do it’s not very bad – I had the body aches," she said. "I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result.”

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators, showrunners and executive producers of The Addams Family spinoff series, spoke to Tudum about the show's renewal.

“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world.  Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
