Maxine Waters To Fact Check Donald Trump After His State of the Union Address
One of President Donald Trump’s fiercest critics on Capitol Hill, Maxine Waters, will address the country after he delivers his first State of the Union address.
California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters will speak at the top of a BET News special after Donald Trump delivers his first State of the Union address. According to the network, Maxine will be present on Angela Rye’s State of the Union, as part of a broader partnership announced between BET and the Democratic strategist and political commentator.
Rye will executive produce news programs with a sharp focus on issues facing black Americans and will run quarterly.
Elected officials will analyze Trump’s first year in office, discuss “building black politics” and highlight the value of engagement. As of press release there has been no definitive word if the program would air on Tuesday or Wednesday night. Black Democrats as a whole are ramping up efforts to make a greater impact in this year’s midterm elections and heading into 2020. Recruiting and training has grown, as BlackPAC and The Collective
PAC are playing an integral role in increasing the black voter count across the country.
Waters, who is the ranking member of the Financial Services Committee, has reinvented her national profile and emerged as one of the leading faces of the anti-Trump movement — especially on the internet — and has called for Trump’s impeachment numerous times.
Her affiliation with BET and Angela Rye is a coup for national Democrats since the network caters to a younger black audience, a segment of the electorate that Democrats cannot afford to lose in 2018 or 2020.
Angela Rye is also enormously popular with this group and she will have a chance to directly tap into one of the more effective motivating factors for young black voters: getting Trump out of office.
