In his press run for The Irishman, award-winning director Martin Scorsese has managed to rankle the comic book and film community.
In a sit-down interview for Empire magazine’s November issue, the director says he (unsuccessfully) tried to get into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema,” Scorsese said. “Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”
On Friday (October 4th) James Gunn, director of the studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, responded to the comments on Twitter:
Scorsese’s latest work, The Irishman, is set to hit theaters November 8 and Netflix streaming November 27.
