After Downplaying Reported “Blow Up” With JAY-Z, Mariah Carey Leaves Roc Nation

Mariah Carey has signed a partnership with Range Media Partners.

On Saturday, The Sun reported that Mariah Carey had left Roc Nation after a “blazing row” involving JAY-Z. A source told the Sun that the two had an “explosive meeting” that would lead Carey to formally depart from the label in a matter of weeks. As it turns out, Carey has indeed departed from Roc Nation to join Range Media Partners.

Variety is reporting that Mariah will be personally managed by Melissa Ruderman, who she’s worked with for over 15 years. Ruderman’s first job in the music industry was with manager Benny Medina. With Medina, she handled daily duties for Mariah’s The Emancipation of Mimi album. In January, Ruderman left the Roc for Range Media, where she now works as a managing partner. In the past, Ruderman has also orchestrated two consecutive multi-year residencies at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace, a Christmas TV deal with Apple, and a publishing contract for Carey.

“The only “explosive” situation I’d ever “get into” with Hov is a creative tangent,” Carey wrote on Instagram Monday morning, along with a video of Jay’s verse on their 1999 single. “Such as our #1 song “Heartbreaker”! To the people who make up these lies I say “Poof–vamoose, sonofa—–.”

Carey originally signed with Roc Nation in 2017 after a split with her old manager, former TV producer Stella Bulochnikov. The two worked together between 2014 and 2017, until their split launched a barrage of lawsuits on both sides, some involving former Bulochnikov staffers.
