Rakim, Ghostface Killah & More To Serve As Harlem’s Paradise Musical Guest For ‘Luke Cage’ Season 2
A handful of music icons from Rakim and Ghostface Killah to Esperanza Spalding and Faith Evans will make an appearance for season two of Marvel’s Luke Cage.
Luke Cage’s first season had a wonderful slate of musical guests who helped to propel the Cottonmouth / Black Mariah storyline at the popular nightclub Harlem’s Paradise. Names such as Raphael Saadiq, the late Charles Bradley, Jidenna, The Delfonics, and the late Sharon Jones and her backing band The Dap Kings were featured performing songs that tied-in to the themes and happenings involving Marvel’s indestructible man.
Now, as we inch ever so closer to the show’s second season, showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker leveraged his connections as a music journalist to up the ante on the music side with appearances from Ghostface Killah, Joi & D-Nice, Gary Clark Jr., Stephen Marley, KRS-One, a returning Faith Evans, plus an original song created by the god MC Rakim Allah for the show’s season finale.
“It’s manna from heaven,” said Coker about having Rakim perform a song about Luke Cage.
With the second season titled after the songs of Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Luke Cage is shaping up to be a hip-hop lover’s dream with beats, fists, action, and more new stories than you can shake a vibranium stick at. “Pete is a huge Luke Cage fan. He’s a comic book collector,” Coker said. “He put out a mixtape that used snippets of the show, so it was his way of saying, ‘You love us, we love you too.’”
If you’re hype for Luke and Misty’s return like we are then you have about a month to wait, as the Netflix superhero series will return on Friday, June 22.
