Ludacris Implies the New 'Fast and Furious' Will Take Place in Outer Space

Ludacris will rejoin series regulars Vin Diesel and Tyrese in the movie.

On Thursday, Ludacris joined SiriusXM's Jess Cagle and Julia Cunningham to discuss the forthcoming ninth installment of the Fast and the Furious. The film, originally scheduled to premiere on May 22, was recently pushed back to April 2, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many have openly wondered what's left for the franchise to do after eight action-packed films. A running joke on social media has been that the franchise will have to tackle the final frontier on F9: outer space. According to Ludacris, that might not be as farfetched as one would think.

Cunningham said she was trying to imagine where the series could go next. She mentioned possible outcomes, including space.

"I will say that you are very intuitive," Ludacris replied. "Because you said something right, but I'm not going to give it away."

The host attempted to get a more certain answer from Luda, but he realized he'd let a little too much information slip out. He covered his mouth before backtracking a bit.

"I don't know," he said. "I don't know what you just said. I will say...what's the best way to answer this...you'll have to wait and see."

Luda also spoke on the film's postponement in the wake of the pandemic.

"That just gives the editors a little more time to perfect it," he explained. "So now, I can only imagine what's going to happen. Hypothetically, if there is a Fast 10 and 11, and you understand the time the creatives have to make these the best possible sequels of all time--I can't even imagine. That is what I am thinking."
