Looks Like Nova is Finally Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Character Richard Rider AKA Nova will soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Marvel Studios is readying production for a series or film.

Marvel Studios will see a new addition in the MCU. The production company first teased Nova Corps in 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy, but Deadline has reported that Richard Rider, AKA Nova, will soon have his own project. With Moon Knight scriptwriter Sabir Pirzada tapped to develop the project, it's uncertain whether Richard Rider will have a full-length film or Disney+ series.

First introduced in a 1966 issue of Super Adventures, Richard Rider was selected to join intergalactic police force Nova Corps as a civilian, gaining superhuman powers. With abilities including flight, resistance to injury and enhanced brawn, he battles extraterrestrial shapeshifters Skrulls, who were alluded to in 2019 film Captain Marvel and Disney+ miniseries Secret Invasion.

The character was initially set to be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy, but according to a 2018 Comicbook.com interview with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, film creators decided to scrap Nova in the screenplay.

"Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board," said Feige. "Because of the connection to the Guardians universe, because there are more than one examples to pull from in the comics that are interesting."

If Nova is added to the Disney+ slot, the superhero will join fellow MCU series WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter SoldierHawkeye, and Loki. Upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight, which premieres March 30th, released its official trailer in January. She-Hulk and Ms Marvel will also join the Disney+ lineup, with films Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever releasing this year.
