Lil Nas X's latest single may not be available for streaming in the near future.

Upon the release of its controversial video, Lil Nas X's new single "Montero" (and accompanying promotional shoes) have spawned a wave of hysterical critique from conservative pundits and other rappers alike, in addition to a lawsuit from Nike. On Tuesday, the 22-year-old hinted at another setback. "Everybody stream Call Me By Your Name hard today," he wrote. "Because it may no longer be available tomorrow and there's nothing I can really do about it. Thanks for all the support tho!"

Shortly afterwards, Columbia Records confirmed the bad news, but wouldn't reveal the reason why.

"Thanks for all your comments recording @LilNasX "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)," it's unfortunately out of our control but we are doing everything possible to keep the song up on streaming services. We will keep you up to date as we hear more. Thank you for understanding."

On Thursday, however, Billboard reported that the song wouldn't be pulled, without further detail.

The "Montero" video sparked backlash from conservative pundits like Candace Owens and rappers like Joyner Lucas. With the vitriol from one side and support from the other, the song quickly rose to the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. "Montero" is Lil Nas X's second appearance atop the charts, this time reaching the summit on the week of its debut.

Lil Nas X's advice to fans was to screen record the audio/video on YouTube so they'd be able to hold on to the song and video for the future. In the meantime, stay tuned for further updates as they come.
