LeBron James Responds To Fox’s Laura Ingraham: “We Will Not Shut Up & Dribble”
One day after Fox News host Laura Ingraham told LeBron James and Kevin Durant to “shut up and dribble,” the future Hall of Famer had a sharp response.
NBA star and future Hall of Famer, LeBron James, responded in a tweet Friday night to Fox News host Laura Ingraham after she told him to “shut up and dribble” rather than criticize President Trump.
Embedded in his tweet was a link out to a report on Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant calling Ingraham’s comments “racist,” with the hashtag #WeWillNotShutUpAndDribble. For those who haven’t seen the video, Ingraham railed against the two basketball phenoms during a Thursday episode of her show.
After showing a video shot for James’s multimedia platform, Uninterrupted, Ingraham had a lot to say about James and Durant’s reflection on Trump’s presidency. “Must they run their mouths like that?” Ingraham said. “Unfortunately, a lot of kids and some adults take these ignorant comments seriously.”
“Look, there might be a cautionary lesson in LeBron for kids,” she added. “This is what happens when you attempt to leave high school a year early to join the NBA. And it’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball.”
Ingraham also told James and Durant to “keep the political commentary to” themselves because “no one voted for you.” “Millions elected Trump to be their coach,” Ingraham also said. “So keep the political commentary to yourself, or, as someone once said, ‘shut up and dribble.’”
Kevin Durant also made sure his voice was heard, saying, “Ignorance is something I try to ignore. That was definitely an ignorant comment. I do play basketball, but I am a civilian and I am a citizen of the United States, so my voice is just as loud as hers, I think — or even louder.”
Super Bowl LII champion Chris Long joined in on the backlash against Ingraham by posting a series of tweets showing Fox News interviewing other celebrities and athletes for their views on political issues. It seems that Ingraham is upset that these two, solid, free-thinking, activist-athletes have the common sense to call it like it is. Last year, Durant and James both made headlines for their commentary on Trump with the former saying he would not visit the White House after they won their second NBA championship and the latter referred to Trump as a “bum” and the “so-called president.”
For all of this, Ingraham doubled-down on her commentary, releasing a statement via Fox News, saying there “was no racial intent” in her remarks.
