LaKeith Stanfield On The Final 'Atlanta' Seasons: "The Most Unexpected Thing You Have Ever Seen"

LaKeith Stanfield spoke with GQ Hype about Atlanta's final seasons, how he got the part of Darius, and more.

Returning to his hometown of Victorsville, CA, during a recent interview with GQ HypeLaKeith Stanfield dished on the upcoming final two seasons of Atlanta.

"You all got a lot of shit coming in your direction. Now it’s the Blackest, the most surreal, the most hilarious. I say this shit with no fear, because I already know what it's going to be: the most unexpected thing you have ever seen," Stanfield said. "But the truth is, it’s becoming hard to make shit up, because the actual reality is crazier than the shit you could come up with. But, luckily, we have a team of dedicated writers who are intent on creating things that are interesting and funny and particularly Black.”

Stanfield also shared how Atlantacreator and fellow cast member Donald Gloveroffered him the role of Darius Epps on the spot at a party, as well as his approach to playing the character.

“For Darius, a lot of it is just letting me riff. They set up a circumstance, say ‘Go,’ and then I just start doing shit. I use the script as more of a guidance thing than literally saying every word," he said. "Because of the way that the character’s designed, I can do anything. I can come into the scene floating. I can come into the scene bowing. I can walk, run, or jump into the scene, or just lay down on my side. Whatever I want to do, it fits with what Darius would do, because he would do anything.”

The third season of Atlanta premieres on March 24, while the fourth and final season will air in the fall.
