La La Anthony Joins 'Wu-Tang: An American Saga' Cast As Def Jam Executive

The second season of Wu-Tang: An American Saga will premiere this fall.

Wu-Tang: An American Sagahas added another cast member to its upcoming second season. In a report from Deadline, La La Anthony will be joining the cast as Tracey Waples, a Def Jam Executive.

A description of the character is as follows: "She’s on the pulse of good music and boldly speaks her mind. After seeing Wu-Tang live she’s completely invested, but her plan for the group might not align with their own."

Anthony's character is presumably based on the real-life Tracey Waples, a Def Jam A&R rep who played a part in trying to get the entire Wu to sign to the label. Ultimately, it was only Method Man that ended up signing to Def Jam.

"We all went to sit down with Russell and (Def Jam A&R rep) Tracey Waples at some little restaurant. It was mad bougie in that bitch," Meth recounted in the book Def Jam Recordings: The First 25 Years of the Last Great Record Label. "Their offer was about 250 grand and shit. So RZA’s like, ‘I’ll give you one muthafucka’. They went for it."

RZA, who created An American Saga alongside Alex Tse, has offered some details on what to expect in the show's second season, saying that it’ll focus on the recording of the group’s seminal debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).

“I think one big thing is that in season we rarely touched into the recording of 36 Chambers…there are certain things that happened in that studio that are hilarious, that’s the caption of our youth, and also that’s iconic,” RZA said in a previous interview with Rolling Stone, while adding that certain topics like how Method Man got his name will be addressed, too.

“This season is gonna be even more unpredictable but layered into the fun of what 36 Chambers mean to so many people around the world,” he said.
