Just call him Ye.
Kanye West has officially changed his name to something much shorter.
According to TMZ, an LA judge approved the rapper’s petition to officially change his legal name from Kanye Omari West to just Ye. (There is no middle name or last name.)
This has been in the works for a while now. Ye is a nickname the rapper’s friends have been using for years. (In fact, his Twitter name has been “ye” forever.) In 2018, months after releasing his eighth studio album Ye, Kanye West sent out a tweet saying: “I am YE.”
Back in August, officially filed the paperwork to change his name. And now we’re here.
West hasn’t said anything about his new name. But, on his Instagram, he gave fans a look at his new haircut, which can best be described as being inspired by the Rorschach mask from Watchmen.
Kanye West is coming off the release of his latest album, DONDA, an epic album that he has been tinkering with for weeks, like what he did with Life of Pablo back in 2016. DONDA had the biggest release of 2021 before Drake came with Certified Lover Boy a week later.
Three weeks ago, Kanye released the latest collection in his Gap partnership — the Yeezy GAP hoodie. Released in six colors, the Yeezy hoodie sold out within 24 hours. (And is getting pretty decent reviews from hypebeasts who like hoodies.)
