Kanye West Responds to Posts Alleging Jay-Z Sold His Masters

Kanye West assured his followers that he holds no ill will towards Jay-Z.

Earlier this week, Kanye West posted the details of his entire recording contract on Twitter. Shortly afterwards, legal analysts began combing through the pages for more information on his ongoing feud with Sony and Universal Music Group.

One account posted pages from the documents, suggesting that as president of Def Jam, Jay-Z allegedly sold the rights to the masters of Kanye's first six albums in exchange for his own masters. On Friday, Kanye attempted to clear things up on Twitter.

"Don't let the system pit us against each other," he said, posting a screenshot of a DJ Akademiks post. "Jay is my brother. I have eternal love for all artist that have been through and are still trapped this crooked system. Jay still doesn’t get his own masters back for ten years. I will see to it that we all get our masters."

It is unclear whether the tweet regarding Kanye's masters and publishing claims are accurate. However, Kanye at the least doesn't seem to harbor any ill will towards Jay, who hasn't publicly responded, and likely will not.

According to Forbes, the Def Jam masters reverted to Jay in 2014, ten years after becoming Def Jam's president in 2004. A year before, his publishing rights--the rights to use of songs in television commercials, sampling by other artists and more--returned to him in 2013. Jay left Def Jam in 2007 to establish Roc Nation, in conjunction with Live Nation.

Earlier this week, Kanye tweeted that he wouldn't drop any new music until he's released from his current contracts. On Friday evening, he teased a new collaboration with Dr. Dre and Eminem.

"Thank you for rapping on the Dr. Dre remix of "Use This Gospel," he tweeted, at Eminem's official account. "I [have] always loved and respected you and I'm honored to have you bless this song...it's also North West's favorite Kanye West song of all time."
