Kanye West is paying his respects to victims of the recent elementary school shooting in Texas. On Wednesday, Yeezy Gap announced that Ye would be postponing his new collection in partnership with Balenciaga out of respect for victims of the Robb Elementary School mass shooting, which left 19 students and 2 adults dead. The Balenciaga-engineered Yeezy Gap capsule will instead release on Friday, May 27th, according to a new statement from Yeezy Gap on their website.
“In light of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, we are postponing the Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga launch until Friday, May 27,” the statement reads. “As we pause, our hearts go out to the families and communities impacted.”
The upcoming collection will feature industrial designs from Ye in collaboration with Demna Gvasalia, who has been the creative director of Balenciaga for six years. After being teased in Ye’s “Life of the Party” music video, products from the second “Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga” capsule were expected to launch Wednesday, with ready-to-wear pieces ranging from $140 to $440 in price, according to Highsnobiety.
The mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas took place on Tuesday morning (May 24) just ten days after the racially-charged shooting at Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, New York on May 14th. The suspected Robb Elementary School shooter, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, was shot and killed by law enforcement at the scene. Students at the elementary school were just two days away from being released for summer break.
