Kanye West Says His Private Donda Academy Could Turn Kids Into “Geniuses”

On Thursday, Kanye West made an appearance on Good Morning America to discuss his pending divorce, Donda Academy, and going solo with Yeezy.

Kanye West opened up during Good Morning America appearance on Thursday (September 22). Now known as Ye, the rapper-producer spoke with Linsey Davis about co-parenting with mogul and socialite Kim Kardashian, his controversial Donda Academy, and splitting from Gap and Adidas.

After apologizing to Kardashian for his social media antics since The Kardashians star filed for divorce last February, Ye also spoke about his influence.

“As a dad and as a Christian, I have a right to have a voice on what my kids are wearing, what they’re watching, what they’re eating,” he said. “I have a platform where I get to say what so many dads can’t say out loud.”

The father of four also shared that he “absolutely” wants his children to attend Donda Academy, although the school is currently not accredited.

“So many schools are made to set kids up for industries that don’t even matter anymore,” he said, adding that the school has courses on engineering, computer programming and farming, which can turn kids into “geniuses.”

“And if your kids are geniuses … they’re three grade levels ahead,” he said.

Elsewhere in the interview, the 21-time Grammy Award winner criticized Gap, confirming that he plans to open his own line of stores named YZY. He also spoke out against Adidas in the midst of their recent battle, calling out the sportswear brand for selling slides that resemble his Yeezy footwear.

“It was all kind of a disregard for the voice of something that I co-created. I co-created the product at Adidas. I co-created the product at Gap,” Ye said. “That means that I was there for some specific agenda, not for Yeezy Gap to be everything that it could be, or this dream that I had about what the Gap could be,” he said. “It’s time for me to make my own thing.”

Later, Ye expressed that he plans to run for president again, although his 2020 bid was not “in God’s time.”
