Jordan Peele & Keegan-Michael Key Go For Animated Horror In 'Wendell & Wild'

Jordan Peele & Keegan-Michael Key star in upcoming Netflix animated feature Wendell & Wild, which dropped a new teaser on Tuesday.

Things are about to get wickedly funny over at Netflix with upcoming animated film Wendell & Wild. Starring former Key & Peele comics Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele (the latter also produced the film), a new teaser for Wendell & Wild dropped on Tuesday (September 6) with full-on stop motion horror. Directed by Henry Selick (CoralineThe Nightmare Before Christmas), the animated film also includes Lyric Ross, Angela Bassett, James Hong, Ving Rhames and more.

Here's the synopsis:

From the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick and producer Jordan Peele comes Wendell & Wild, an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele), who enlist the aid of Kat Elliot — a tough teen with a load of guilt — to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.

In a recent interview with Slash Film, Selick discussed featuring characters of color in the animated film.

Right up front, when I first started working with Jordan, he convinced me Kat should be the protagonist because it originally was Sister Helley [a different character, played by Angela Bassett]," Selick said. "He convinced me [it should] be Kat and I said, "Well, I'm a little worried, because I did that film 'Coraline' and I don't want people to think I'm doing the same film." And he said, "Oh no, no one will confuse it with 'Coraline' if she's a person of color — someone that I would've wanted to see in a film when I was a kid."

He added, "Once he said that, it was just like, "I want to change all the casting of the film." Even going back to 'Coraline,' there's this character Bobinsky and he performs on the rooftop and I was so tired of all these white people. I just made him blue. Just artistically, I thought, "Oh, it'd be great to have all these different skin tones." And then story-wise, it fell into place and it felt honest, like this is what's right for this story.

Wendell & Wild arrives to Netflix on October 28.
