Yesterday came news that Jordan Peele's wildly successful feature film debut Get Out would likely be competing at the Golden Globe Awards as a comedy, and social media had a range of opinions on the categorization.

Now, Peele himself has spoken out on the classification.

The director's comment may seem to make light of the situation but there's some truth to it too, considering that the film does address the microaggressions black people encounter on a day-to-day basis in America. Other stars a part of the critically acclaimed horror-satire also voiced their confusion about the classification, such as Lil Rel Howery.

The Golden Globe Awards does not have a Horror category but does have both a Drama and Musical/Comedy category. So Get Out did not really have too many choices in terms of classification. Plus, it allows the movie to potentially win more awards (think back to when Matt Damon's The Martian was nominated for Best Musical/Comedy in 2016, even though it was anything but). However, some people seem angry with the labeling because they feel it lessens the unflinching commentary about race relations offered in the film.

Maybe the best way to address this is in a recent CBS This Morning appearance Peele made, where he talks about the importance of incorporating comedy into the film.

Anyways, we will see what happens with Get Out and the Golden Globes when nominations for the ceremony are announced Monday, December 11, with the awards telecast to follow on January 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
