Legend has been consistent.
John Legend has been one of the few celebrities to criticize R. Kelly. He was one of the lone celebrity voices in Surviving R. Kelly. And, after the documentary premiered, publically doubled down on his decision to appear in the doc, saying “I believe these women and don’t give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist.”
So it wasn’t surprising to see John Legend appear on The Today Show on Tuesday, February 26th, and continue to speak out against the Kelly, just a day after the singer bailed out of jail. During the interview, Legend credited the documentary for helping the police and prosecutors act with this new urgency.
It’s been a long time coming…a lot of us kind of tolerated or looked the other way on that issue for a long time. And a lot of people were being hurt for decades…we looked away too long.
When asked what he thinks should happen to him, Legend said he thinks justice should play out in court.

R. Kelly was arrested on 10 counts of sexual abuse last week. The singer, who is having financial difficulties, had trouble making bail. According to the Chicago Tribune, a 47-year-old “Suburban Chicago woman” provided his $100,000 bail money. In the documents, she identified herself as a “friend” of Kelly.
According to The Daily Mail, Love owns some restaurants and the Lord and Child Christian Day Care center. She also told ABC that Kelly is a “close friend” and that this was R. Kelly’s money.
