Turns out that there’s still people in the United States who have no idea who Dave Chappelle is.
Case in point? These three contestants on a recent episode of Jeopardy!. The episode, which aired on Wednesday (January 27), featured a category called “Funny Business” in its Double Jeopardy round. The category focused on big-name and well-known comedy stars, with the $2000 question being about Chappelle.
The contestants were given the following clue along with an image of the popular entertainer: “This comedian displayed his drama chops in A Star is Born, playing Bradley Cooper’s longtime friend.”
It was an easy question made all the easier thanks to the accompanying image of the comedian. And yet, none of the contestants recognized who Chappelle was, with interim host Ken Jennings telling them the answer after an awkward moment of silence. Although Jennings kept it moving, Jeopardy! viewers took to Twitter to express their surprise at none of the contestants recognizing the comedian.
In related news, Chappelle recently canceled a string of shows he had scheduled in Austin, TX, after contracting covid-19. Some speculated that musician Grimes had given the virus after she shared that she contracted it recently. Chappelle was photographed alongside Grimes, Elon Musk and Joe Rogan while in Austin.
However, Rogan disputed the rumor, taking to Instagram to write: “Because people are asking, I was not exposed to the person who had covid and I have tested negative every day this week. Also, the person that gave covid to Dave was NOT Elon’s partner, Grimes.”
