Jeezy Says Gucci Mane Turned Down His Verzuz Battle Invite

Jeezy spoke about his upcoming Verzuz battle with T.I. on The Breakfast Club.

On November 19th, T.I. and Jeezy will collide for the Season 2 premiere of the Verzuz battle series. The two titans of trap music will face off at 8 PM EST. In a recent interview with the Breakfast Club, however, Jeezy revealed he originally had his sights set on a familiar foe for the battle: Gucci Mane.

"Swizz [Beatz] called me and I was like 'yo, Swizz...if I do it, there's only one person I'd do it with," he said. "And he was like 'who?' [I said] Gucci. Reach out to him. Let me know what's up."

According to Jeezy, Gucci politely declined the invitation. Shortly after he got the news, he saw T.I. proclaim he was willing to battle if 50 Cent wasn't game.

"Swizz hit back and said he respectfully declined," Jeezy explained. "Cool. Done. Kept it moving. I was gonna do it for the culture."

Gucci Mane and Jeezy have a well-publicized history over the past decade. After collaborating on the 2005 hit "So Icy," the two quickly fell out over the rights to the track. On a diss track, Jeezy claimed to put a bounty on Gucci Mane's infamous Bart Simpson chain. Later that year, Gucci shot and killed one of Jeezy's associates, Henry "Pookie Loc" Clark III during an alleged home invasion. Gucci was later acquitted for the murder on the basis of self-defense. Over the years, he's shown no remorse for it, even laughing about the incident on wax.

Just weeks ago, Gucci tweeted that he wouldn't join the Verzuz series without a million dollars as the prize. "Stop asking me about doing a Verzuz battle," he wrote, "unless they got a million dollars they scared of Wop."

Stay tuned for further updates about the upcoming battle.
