“Got more money than Goodell, a whole NFL bench”

On Friday morning, Jay Electronica released his long-awaited debut album, A Written Testimony. Eight out of the album’s ten tracks feature Electronica’s Roc Nation boss Jay-Z. One of the album’s most popular tracks thus far is Flux Capacitor.

Jay-Z kicks off the track interpolating New Orleans MC Lil’ Elt’s 1992 track “Get the Gat.” The track recently resurfaced during Louisiana State University’s College Football Playoff run. The track also samples Rihanna’s ANTI cut “Higher.”

On the topic of football, the elder Jay took some time to address his own recent dealings regarding the gridiron. After throwing his support behind Colin Kaepernick in recent years, Jay-Z and Roc Nation recently entered a partnership with the NFL to “nurture and strengthen community through football and music.” Kaepernick and fans alike viewed the move as both harmful and hypocritical.

“Why would I sell out, I’m already rich,” Jay raps, clearly nonplussed by the pushback. “Got more money than Goodell, a whole NFL bench.”

“Did it one-handed like Odell, handcuffed to a jail,” he continued. “I would’ve stayed on the sideline if they could’ve tackled the shit themselves.”

A Written Testimony comes over a decade since Electronica’s heralded debut single, “Exhibit A.” After signing with Roc Nation in 2010, he and Jay-Z released “Shiny Suit Theory.” The track appears on Testimony.
