The year 2021 can’t get here fast enough.

Veteran journalist Dan Charnas and New York University Assistant Arts professor Jeff Peretz are writing the definitive book on one of the greatest producers of all time: J Dilla.

Charnas made the announcement on his Twitter page on Sunday, January 20th. Charnas is the author of The Big Payback, the defining book about the history of business in hip-hop. In his tweet, Charnas mentioned that he has already spent the last two years researching Dilla’s life.

The book will be called DillaTime: How a Hip-Hop Producer Reinvented Rhythm and Changed the Way Musicans Play, and is expected to be published on Dilla Day 2021. (Dilla Day is February 7, which is also Jay Dee’s birthday.)
