FX CEO Speaks On ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 Delay, Claims Marvel Killed Donald Glover’s Deadpool Series

“Deadpool didn’t work out because Marvel didn’t want to make it,” FX CEO John Landgraf recently said.

During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, FX CEO John Landgraf announced that the third season of Donald Glover‘s Atlanta TV series would be delayed, as well as revealed that Marvel was the reason why Glover’s Deadpool series wasn’t made.

“I don’t know whether we’ll have Atlanta or not. The writers are back working right now, thank God,” Landgraf said according to The Hollywood Reporter before elaborating further:

“As you might imagine, Donald Glover is sort of the king of all media, and he just has had an incredibly complicated life. He’s had personal things he’s had to deal with, from injuries to other things I’d rather not say publicly that just have to do with not with his personal life but his extended family. So I think one of the things that is just a reality of television today is you have to wait. We have so many things now that don’t cycle back on a regular basis…From my standpoint, I wish for the fans as well as for us that we could get everything back on an annual basis but, again, you just have to make a decision about quantity over quality at a certain point — and we’re just erring on the side of quality.”

Atlanta star Zazie Beatz had hinted at the delay during an interview with IndieWire at Sundance, saying: “Ideally we would be shooting now; that’s not happening. Everybody’s schedules are sort of all over the place — they’re hoping for spring sometime, but no dates.”

During the press tour, Landgraf also claimed that Marvel didn’t want to move forward with Glover’s Deadpool project. Glover and his brother Stephen were going to executive produce a Deadpool animated series but the two left the project in March 2018.

“Deadpool didn’t work out because Marvel didn’t want to make it. It didn’t fit what they wanted to do with Deadpool and it’s their brand and their decision,” Landgraf said according to Monsters and Critics.
