Here's Everything We Know About 'Squid Game' Season 2

Here's everything we know about season two of Squid Game, which was announced its return to Netflix over the weekend.

Netflix has given the green light to season two of hit series Squid Game, which was announced on Sunday (June 12).

Also on Sunday, series creator, director and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote about the show's return.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” Hwang wrote. “As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show... Join us once more for a whole new round.”

Here's what we know about the forthcoming season:

Gi-hun and The Front Man return

Squid Game winner Seong Gi-hun (also known as Player 456) returned to Ssangmun-dong, Seoul deeply traumatized after having to kill childhood friend Cho Sang-woo in the game's final round. Gi-hun discovers that elderly player Oh Il-nam deceived him, being a privileged financial tycoon who co-created and participated in the game for fun. In the first season's finale, Gi-hun (with bright red hair, no less) is preparing to board a flight to the United States when he gets another invitation card, calling the number on the card and asking who runs the game. Not only will The Front Man return, but viewers may discover their true identity.

The man in the suit with ddakji might be back

Also in the aforementioned season finale, when Gi-hun is on his way to the airport, he notices a man playing a game of ddakji with the same salesman who recruited him into joining the game. The salesman departs on a train, while Gi-hun snatches the card from the prospect, telling him to never call the number. Gi-hun calls instead, vowing to end the game, but will the man in the suit be back to recruit more players like the once-naive Gi-hun?

Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su, will be introduced

Motion-sensing animatronic doll Cheol-su opened up the game with "Red Light, Green Light," killing 255 players in the process. In the second season, her "boyfriend" Cheol-su will be introduced, although it's unknown what game he's featured in.

With details under wraps, season two of Squid Game will air either late 2023 or 2024 on Netflix.
