The Gordon Parks Foundation To Honor Ava DuVernay, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Jamel Shabazz & More
The Gordon Parks Foundation will host its Annual Awards Dinner and Auction in NYC by honoring Ava DuVernay, Ta-Nehisi Coates and a host of others.
Circle your calendars for May 22 if you’re in New York City because The Gordon Parks Foundation will be where it’s at. Taking place at Cipriani 42nd Street, the foundation will host its Annual Awards Dinner and Auction celebrating Parks’ rich legacy and honoring those that continue to make an impact in the performing and visual arts and humanitarianism. With that in mind, there’s no one else more qualified to receive such a distinction this year as Ava DuVernay, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ronald O. Perelman, Sherrilyn Ifill, Sally Mann and Jamel Shabazz will be honored.
Each of these honorees were chosen for their dedication and support of arts and humanitarianism, plus a commitment to social justice. Following in the footsteps of Congressman John Lewis, Janelle Monáe and Annie Leibovitz, these honorees will have the pleasure of being serenaded by a true soul music legend as singer-songwriter Mavis Staples will be the gala’s main performer. “We’re pleased to recognize this year’s group of distinguished honorees and the impact that they continue to have in matters of social justice through their work in the arts, philanthropy and more as we again come together to celebrate the lasting legacy of Gordon Parks,” says Peter W. Kunhardt, Jr., Executive Director of The Gordon Parks Foundation.
Co-chaired by Kendrick Lamar, Valerie Jarrett, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, plus more legends than you can shake a stick at — this year’s Gordon Park Foundation Annual Awards Dinner and Auction will mark a special transition that is happening in and around black America. As part of the gala celebration a group of Gordon Parks photographs will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to support the Foundation’s ongoing artistic and educational programs. While we hope to be in attendance to soak up all this #BlackExcellence – The Gordon Parks Foundation continues to be a bastion of scholarship, fellowship and inclusion in a world where people are fighting to make sure things like that don’t advance further.
