Giancarlo Esposito (Still) Wants to Play Professor X in the MCU

While visiting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, actor Giancarlo Esposito reiterated his hopes to play Marvel Studios' Professor X.

Giancarlo Esposito is still manifesting his dream role as Professor X. On Tuesday (January 10), the Kaleidoscope actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, discussing the potential of joining the X-Men franchise as either Professor Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men, or Xavier's nemesis, Magneto.

"I want to play a good guy," Esposito told host Jimmy Fallon. "Charles is smart. He's good. But I feel as if there may be some mileage with me and Marvel. I know I love what they do. I know I love creativity. So who knows what could happen? Keep putting it out there."

Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy have previously portrayed Professor X, the former making a surprise MCU appearance in 2022 epic Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Last year, Esposito spoke about his hopes of playing Professor X, also confirming that he'd been in talks with Marvel Studios.

“So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of — who else are they talking about over there?” he said at the time. “Oh, Doom! And there is … Professor X. I’m gonna go for something that’s a little bit different. I’m gonna go and put it out in the universe that [I’d like to play] Professor X.”

The X-Men reboot, potentially titled The Mutants, will go into production in 2025.
