Ghostface Killah Officially Has His Own Day In New York City

During his opening of Killah Koffee on Monday, Ghostface Killah was honored with May 9th becoming "Ghostface Killah Day" in New York City.

Wu-Tang Clan's own Ghostface Killah was honored in his hometown this week. On Monday, Mayor Eric Adams deemed May 9th as the official "Ghostface Killah Day" in New York City, during the opening of the rapper's coffee shop Killah Koffee in Staten Island. The rapper – whose legal name is Dennis Coles – opened the shop with business partners Ross Filler and Shawn Wigs. Prior to establishing the brick-and-mortar shop, beginning over a year ago, Coles originally sold the coffee exclusively online.

“There’s so many people coming out here seeing a performer, a young person who grew up here who lived in public housing and went to public school, and now is able to have a business out here; just coming back to the community,” Mayor Adams said during ceremony. “That’s what it’s all about. So we just want to say, ‘thank you.’ ‘Thank you for reinvesting.’”

City Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks’ (D-North Shore) office presented a citation to Coles, while Gary Perone, executive vice president and general manager of Staten Island Entertainment, gave Coles a Staten Island Ferryhawks hat and jersey, also announcing the naming of Shaolin Alley at the ballpark to honor the Wu-Tang Clan.

“It means more culture and more flavor and more attention for Staten Island because that’s exactly what Wu-Tang and Ghostface and everybody’s been bringing, Wigs said, per SILive.

Coles and the remainder of Wu-Tang Clan will embark on their "NY State of Mind" Tour with Nas beginning in late-August.
