Get A First Look At Idris Elba’s New TV Show “In the Long Run”
Idris Elba created In the Long Run after his own childhood. He will play the family patriarch, Walter, whose life gets turned upside-down.
2018 is looking like a good time to be Idris Elba. Starting off the year getting engaged and becoming a first-time director, Elba is now going to take himself back to the ‘80s in the upcoming Sky comedy, In the Long Run.
Created by the acting heartthrob and based loosely on his own childhood, In the Long Run will be developed by his production company, Green Door, in partnership with Sprout Pictures. The ensemble comedy will also star comedian and actor Bill Bailey, Kellie Shirley and Mattie Boys.
Elba, as family patriarch Walter Easmon, says In the Long Run follows the adventures of his family who have settled in England after having arrived from Sierra Leone. Walter works in the local factory alongside friend and neighbor Bagpipes (Bailey). The family’s world is turned upside-down when Walter’s brother arrives in the U.K., bring chaos in his wake and igniting a passion for music in Walter’s son.
Idris will executive produce In the Long Run with Gina Carter (Moone Boy) and the series will begin its run on SkyOne in the U.K. beginning March 29.
