Fulton County Chairman John Eaves has called for a criminal investigation on R. Kelly.

In a report from the AJC, the Georgia official made the announcement Friday, citing new evidence uncovered by Johns Creek police that the R&B singer allegedly held women against their will in a north Fulton County house.

"A detailed local investigation by the John Creek Police Department has provided key information that we believe is enough evidence that gives the Fulton County District Attorney's Office all it needs to advance a criminal investigation of the well-known allegations," Eaves said in a statement. "...we will not allow our young girls and young women to be preyed upon by predators or anyone who aims to brainwash and strip them of their human dignity and their right to be free."

The investigation stems from a BuzzFeed report published in July, in which the author, Jim DeRogatis, wrote that Kelly "held women against their will in a cult" at a house he was renting in Johns Creek. However, Kelly has since denied the allegations, with his lawyer, Linda Mensch, saying on his behalf: "Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name."

One of the women that is allegedly being held captive also came out in Kelly's defense, saying that she is fine and refusing to offer any details on her whereabouts.
