Freddie Gibbs Admits Grammy Loss to Nas Inspired Latest Single

Freddie Gibbs joined the Joe Budden Podcast to talk his Grammy nomination.

The latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast featured one of rap's most entertaining voices. Fresh off the release of his latest single "Big Boss Rabbit," Freddie Gibbs joined the pod to talk about the single, Alfredo, and his Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Stream the full episode below.

While Gibbs didn't take home the hardware this year, he says he was glad that he at least lost to a rap legend. Additionally, he revealed that the loss inspired the new single. The new track (not so) coincidentally sample's Nas' 2001 track "You're Da Man." It is unclear whether the track will appear on a full-length project in the future.

"Nas won the Grammy," he said. "So I was like alright, fasho...he gave me motivation. Thank you Nas, man. If I was going to lose to anybody, I gracefully lost to a legend like Nas. I appreciate you. You turned me up, you really pissed me off that night, and you  motivated me to get better, man, in the booth. So, I appreciate you for that. Thank you, dawg."

Nas' win was his first after 14 nominations throughout his career. His self-titled album was nominated for Best Rap Album in 2008, and his previous albums Hip-Hop is Dead, and I Am also received Best Rap Album nominations. Gibbs' nomination for Alfredo was the first of his career.
