Eric Andre on the Newly-Canceled 'Cops': "You Can't Slap Reggae on Police Brutality Footage"

Eric Andre talks about Cops in his upcoming special Legalize Everything.

Wow, great timing.

Just days after it was announced that Cops was getting canceled after 32 seasons, Eric Andre released a clip mocking the show. The clip is from Andre's upcoming Netflix special Legalize Everything, which drops on June 23rd.

In the clip, we see Eric address something that has always been kind of puzzling: the fact that the show uses Inner City's "Bad Boys" as its intro song. In the clip, Andre says:

"Is it just me or is reggae the most inappropriate music they could have picked to open the show Cops...You can't slap reggae over police brutality footage and call it a day."

Cops was once one of the longest-running shows in the country. However, amongst protests around the country and nationwide calls for police reform, Paramount Network announced that they would be removing the reality show from its schedule and not filming future episodes.

“‘Cops’ is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a spokeswoman for the network told the New York Times. A&E's Live P.D., another cop reality show that glorified the police, was also canceled.

Eric Andre's Legalize Everything is his first standup special. It was filmed at the Republic in New Orleans in November 2019. Here is the description for the special: “Andre breaks the boundaries of comedy as he critiques the war on drugs, the war on sex, and the war on fart jokes!”

Sounds good to us. Check out a clip from the special below.
