Emmys 2017 Round-Up: New Chance Mixtape, #BlackExcellence + Improv Chappelle
The 2017 Emmys were full of history-making moments, #BlackExcellence and some guffaws provided by some of the best in the business.
Last night, Sept. 17, the 2017 Emmys took place and boy, were they a thing! There was the absolute ethering of Donald Drumpf by the Hollywood elite, led by the show’s host Stephen Colbert. Even Sean Spicer got into the act in a very problematic bit with his impersonation of Melissa McCarthy’s impersonation of him.
#BlackExcellence was definitely in the building, as Riz Ahmed (yes, he down with the brown!) took home an Emmy for his work on The Night Of, becoming only the second person of Asian descent to win the prize. Meanwhile, Stephen K. Brown won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, a win that hasn’t happened in 19 years.
Lastly, but certainly not least, Lena Waithe and Donald Glover won for their respective shows, Master of None and Atlanta becoming the first in their positions to win for writing and directing. It was a night of highs and we certainly hope that you caught it in real-time to be a part of the history-making-ness of it all.
If not, then check out our Emmys 2017 round-up and enjoy!
