Parkland Shooting Survivor Emma González Meets Waffle House Hero James Shaw Jr.
Emma González met her hero, James Shaw Jr., alongside other survivors of the Parkland shooting over the weekend and posted it all on Twitter.
It’s no secret that Emma González has a respect and love for Waffle House Hero James Shaw Jr. When Kanye West was going on his controversial tweet-rant, he posted two comments about Emma being his “hero,” to which she responded that Shaw was actually her hero. Unimpressed by Yeezus, the reaction was quickly placed on the back-burner until the subject came up again when González and Shaw officially met on Saturday, May 12.
“I met one of my heroes today,” Shaw wrote in a Twitter caption of the photo of the two of them together.

On April 22, Shaw successfully disarmed an active shooter in a Tennessee Waffle House after the shooter killed four people and injured for others. The move ceased gunfire and knocked the weapon out of the shooter’s hands. Since then, Shaw has helped raise more than $230,000 for the victims of the shooting and their families.
González and fellow survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting have been some of the most active and vocal voices since the tragedy happened. With these two heroes and the survivors meeting, it would seem as if something really positive and power could be in the works.
