Donald Glover’s ‘Deadpool’ Animated Series Canned By FX
Donald and Stephen Glover won’t be bringing an animated version of Marvel’s popular Deadpool character to television due to “creative differences”.
Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, have hit nothing but homeruns over the past few years in music and television. With Atlanta at the top of Nielsen ratings, setting records; his music placing on Billboard charts — it seemed like the north Atlanta creative had a blank check to play with. According to Variety, at least one of those projects — an animated version of Deadpool set for FX’s sister channel FXX — won’t be coming to television as all parties agreed to abandon the project.
“Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series. FX will no longer be involved with the project,” FX said in a released statement. “FX and Marvel [will] have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on Legion, which will continue.” Originally announced for FXX to air in May 2017, Glover was set to write, direct and serve as the showrunner alongside his brother for this comic book favorite.
Despite no longer in the works, the Glovers continue to be busy, as they still have Atlanta currently in the middle of its second season, and Donald will have a slate of films soon to be released this year and the next. The Glovers are also still on good terms with the network even though the show will not move forward.
