Donald Glover Parts Ways With Adidas Originals After Two-Year Partnership

Glover designed three pairs of sneakers during the collaboration.

Shortly after releasing his “Feels Like Summer” visuals in September 2018, Donald Glover and Adidas announced a partnership. Less than two years later, the two parties have called off their relationship.

In a statement to Complex, the brand wished Glover well in further pursuits. “The Adidas Originals by Donald Glover partnership has come to an end. Together Adidas and Glover set out to look beyond the confines of a traditional collaboration inspired by limitless creativity. Adidas continues to be inspired by Glover’s visionary creativity and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.”

Throughout their collaboration, Glover designed three pairs of shoes for Adidas: the Continental 80s, Lacombes, and Nizzas. In conjunction with the release, Glover released five short films featuring names like Mo’Nique and skater Na-Kel Smith.

The news regarding the shoe deal comes just days after Glover released an untitled, unannounced project to The project featured guest appearances from SZA, Ariana Grande, and 21 Savage. Additionally, Glover’s son Legend makes a special appearance on “Don’t Worry About Tomorrow (The Violence).”

The end of Glover’s Adidas deal isn’t the only bump in the road for the Golden Globe winner in the past week. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, FX decided to postpone filming his series Atlanta. Additionally, the network postponed FargoSnowfall, and Y: The Last Man.
