DMX’s Streaming Numbers Jumped Nearly 1,000 Percent After His Death

Fans streamed music from DMX’s catalog at an increase of nearly a thousand percent following his death.

In the days of streaming services, post-mortem streaming rises are the norm. On Tuesday, the trend continued as Billboard reported that the streaming numbers for DMX‘s catalog have increased 928 percent following his death on April 9th. The 75.7 million on-demand streams (counting both audio and video) on April 9th and 10th dwarfed the 7.36 million streams they earned on April 7th and 8th.

X’s hit single “Ruff Ryders Anthem” was streamed over 9 million times, up 973 percent from the days before. “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” was streamed 5.79 million times, up 900 percent. “Slippin” was streamed 5.52 million times, up 853 percent from the days before. “Party Up” and “How It’s Goin’ Down” streams respectively increased 941 percent and 691 percent.

DMX’s music was streamed at an increase in the days leading up to his death. Before his hospitalization on April 2nd, the songs were streamed between 700,000 and 1 million times per day. Between April 3rd and 8th, they were streamed between 3 and 4 million times a day. Between April 9th and 11th, DMX’s songs and albums sold 101,000 copies, up 1,036 percent in comparison to the 9,000 copies they sold between April 6th-8th.

DMX’s greatest hits compilation album The Best Of re-entered the Billboard 200 charts dated April 17th at number 73. The compilation earned over 12,000 equivalent album units for the week, marking a 224 percent increase. The bulk of that increase was driven by album streams.

Stay tunes for further updates about DMX’s catalog and unreleased music.
