Brazilian mixmaster DJ Nyack started the challenge.

Last Tuesday, Sao Paulo, Brazil-based DJ Nyack started the Premier Scratch Challenge hashtag on Instagram. He tagged Canadian DJ Skratch Bastid, DJ Babu of Dilated Peoples, and DJ Boogie Blind of The X-Ecutioners to issue the challenge.

"DJ Premier inspired many of us," DJ Nyack wrote. "So I decided to pay homage with this video. To join me on this one, I choose my friends to do your favorite Premier cuts. Thank U, Preemo!"

On Tuesday, Preemo himself took the time to show his appreciation. "I'm still speechless for the most part," he said on Instagram. "Just for even creating this during this whole lockdown we got."

Nyack showcased his scratches over Da Youngsta's "Pass the Mic" and Gang Starr's "Mass Appeal." The Brazil-based DJ rose to prominence in the late 2000s with Brazilian MC Emicida.

"The crazy thing is," Premier continued, "it's not even just playing records I produced. Y'all are doing my intricate scratches, which is what I've always done it for. I've always loved hearing scratches on records because that's how the pioneers did it when I was growing up. That's why I do it to this day, to impress DJs."
